Biography
Early Life
Born in Bodai, near Baalbek, Lebanon, in 1950. Studied theology in Najaf, Iraq, as a student of Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, returning to Lebanon in 1980.
Sheikh Mohammad Yazbek (born 1950 in Bodai, Baalbek District, Lebanon) is a Lebanese Shia cleric and one of the founding members of Hezbollah. He studied theology in Najaf, Iraq, under Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr before returning to Lebanon in 1980.
Along with Abbas al-Musawi and Subhi al-Tufayli, all from the Beqaa Valley, Yazbek helped found Hezbollah in 1982. He has since served as head of the organization's Sharia council, a member of its supreme Shura council, and as the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the Beqaa Valley, overseeing the distribution of Iranian financial support to the group.
Yazbek survived an assassination attempt in Baalbek in December 2005 and was sanctioned by the United States and several Arab states in May 2017 for his role within Hezbollah's leadership structure.
